Firewise USA Communities

March 18, 2019

Information on Firewise USA has been added to our Resources section.  Firewise is a program of the National Fire Protection Association that “teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses.”

Currently, there are no Firewise Communities in Tuolumne County, but the Lambert Lakes community is in the process of forming a Firewise neighborhood, named TELLARA (Terrace Lambert Lake Access Road Area).

If your community is interested in become a Firewise site, contact the Fire Safe Council through our Contacts page.

Please, take some time and check out Firewise USA.

My husband and I attended the meeting last evening in Sonora at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Christian Heights subdivision for the Tellara Firewise Community consisting of Lambert Lake Estates, Whispering Woods and Christian Heights plus areas surrounding these residential subdivisions. We were very pleased with the information and attendance and look forward to future meetings very soon of this neighborhood Firewise Community. Everyone in our County needs to make themselves aware of the wildland fire dangers in our area. I am a long-time Realtor (23 years) and have been quite concerned about very real fire fuel dangers. We all need to learn more about how to be “ready” for fire emergencies, but also how we can do more to prevent fire. We have also been personally affected by the deteriorating affordable homeowners insurance crisis in Tuolumne County. We look forward to more information on future meetings of the “Tellara” group as it becomes available.
