Mountain Boy/Rocky Top Shaded Fuel Break

Mountain Boy Project

This project is a 58-acre shaded fuel break located near Columbia. The project connects a system of existing fuel breaks from Big Hill Road to Yankee Hill Road. The fuel break provides protection to 20 residences in the immediate area and the community of Columbia to the west.

The project is funded by CALFIRE with a California Climate Investments (CCI) Grant. 42 acres of mastication and hand thinning are complete as of November 2024. All thinning on this project was completed in spring 2025, for a total of 48 acres treated.
